Repetition Project

In this piece I was inspired by the sound waves or frequencies in a radio, to show repetition. When I first started to sketch out the different levels I had planned on all of the bars to be longs strips instead of each individual rectangle being cut out. But in the end I feel like when each one was cut out it really made the layered and different heights of the bars more realistic. Though the painting may be off and the cutting a little crooked it reflects the beats and bass levels in an  actual radio. Maybe in the next one I will paint all of the book to make the focus mainly around the bars, and add more color in the different rectangles.

Relief Project

In my relief piece I chose to use a book, with low relief, to show the different levels or layers to the book.Cutting and carving only bits and pieces at a time really brought the risen and leveled parts of the piece out. The two sides of the book love/hate I think shows the dynamics of it, not to mention how the words show up, brings a whole new meaning to "a picture is worth a thousand words". I think most of all I am proud of how well you can see that the heart and the fist are hands, not just shapes. But, if I had to do it all over again I would definitely make the lines a little more distinct, outlined, to show the contrast.
